project:a is a band consisting of three members, namely savva, yuri & sergey. the band was formed in october 2006 with the main aim to play a different kind of music. different from what we have in the area, mainly, and probably to discover new ways of music creation. in november 2006 we recorded our first demo containing 3 tracks. each one of them is developed in different stylistic ways. the first one called clad in purest white represents a mix of psychedelic acoustic ambient with some experimental noise parts, finishing with neo-shamanic drums and percussion decked in mystical guitar sounds. the second track – to the evening star – can be called a half-folk song enriched with effects. on the whole it is performed on acoustic guitars accompanied by a la jazz drums in the first half & typical rock drums in the second. the third track – while i nodded nearly napping – is an ambient piece with a soft sound. we placed samples from a polylogue of 3 scientists about the nature of human sleep. it ends with a sketch of a song we plan to develop in a full-weight composition. all the songs are sung in english with the exception of the 3rd one. the samples used there are in russian.

before project:a there were several bands.

yuri formed his first band requiem aeternum in early 90’s & together with his mate they tried their hand in various metal genres. on the contrary, savva first took the guitar later and first joined a band in late 90’s. he already had a good piano experience & understood the way instruments work so it made no difficulty to master the guitar quickly.

in 2000 savva & his brother sergey (drums) left all the bands they’d participated in before & formed their own project темной лес – a Black Metal band with some folk influences. beginning life as a duo the brothers wrote several compositions & in late 2000 with the help of a session guitarist they recorded & quickly circulated a full-length cd, which received excellent reviews in several ‘zines. the cd was put on distribution list by a famous russian underground label стрелы перуна (later, in 2006 it was re-released by the same label). the same year savva & yuri got acquainted on the basis of forming a doom metal band. from 1999 yuri had been a member of fata morgana – a band specializing on atmospheric instrumental music created by two doom-metallers. the band split in 2001 and yuri concentrated on experimental music abusing the guitar & midi.

in 2002 savva & sergey formed a Black Metal band dunkelforst, started rehearsing and giving concerts regularly. on halloween 2004 dunkelforst gave its last 2-hour concert and it was the first time when our team included yuri also. since then we realized that what we do together is not that bad. why the hell not make music together then?

project:a recorded their first demo & started a web-site. right now we are working on a new record which promises to be much more thought-over & as a result very interesting.
